Coconut oil is of course the latest blogger’s BFF, but what about coconut water? I’m not talking about the decadent milk we add to curries and soups, I mean the refreshing taste of coconut water that takes us back to blissful beach holidays.
Well unfortunately I can’t offer you a getaway in a bottle, but I do have some fun facts about this underrated beverage.
Rumour has it that coconut water is the perfect hangover cure, mainly because it’s great for hydration! I’m more of a water girl when I’m off to the gym, but when I’ve sweated everything out I’m always left with cravings. Coconut water, ice pineapple chunks and lemon has been my go to combo for a few weeks now. It stops me reaching for the biscuit tin, much to my flatmate’s delight – I’m a real bad influence!
If you’re anything like me and suffer from migraines, the sweet hit might be just what you need to aid recovery from the gym. Giving you a boost when you feel exhausted, you can even keep them in the freezer so they’re chilled for your return.
For Your Skin
I love homemade facemasks and I’ve recently discovered that you can use unsweetened coconut water to hydrate your skin. Steep cotton buds in pure coconut water and press them on your t-zone and cheeks, before steaming in the shower and rinsing. Apparently it’s good for anti-aging, but at the ripe ol’ age of 22 I’d like to think I’m only using this method for silky smooth skin!

For that feel good vibe
I was sent some Buko to review and was amazed by their partnership with Cupio. For every bottle purchased, one square metre of rainforest is bought and protected by Cupio and Buko. I always love seeing companies doing their bit for the environment, perhaps that’s why I’m such a fan of Lush and sorts! There’s actually a pretty sad story about why Buko started working with Cupio linked to their staff in the Philippines being hit by fierce typhoons. Fingers crossed we can do some good together!
But don’t be fooled…
Some brands aren’t as healthy as them seem (I’m looking at you Vita Coco), you wouldn’t want to put these sweetened alternatives on your face and if you’re looking for a healthy drink, you might want to take a closer look at the label too.
So remember to proceed with caution, but definitely give it a try. It’s not all about coconut oil, you know!
