I need to tell you a story about the best blogger event I’ve ever been to – and no, I’m not exaggerating – The JD womens Christmas party at Hotel Gotham was the best start to the festive season. Hands down. Sit yourself down, grab a cup of tea and just picture yourself there for a sec.
I rocked up with my fav gal pal Hannah from HannahGetsHench. We’ve both wanted to snoop around Hotel Gotham for the longest time and we were finally in there. We spent a few minutes taking photos by the lifts because it’s Hotel Gotham and that place is GORGEOUS!
Upon arrival we were handed a glass of prosecco and shown into the private members bar. You know the scene in Home Alone 2 when he walks into the posh hotel for the first time? That was what it felt like. Christmas music was playing and when I looked to the left of me, I realised it was a singer! In fact there were two performers throughout the night – the second performed plenty of Beyonce songs. A strong move to make, but she absolutely NAILED THEM!
Hannah and I shuffled on through, spotting a few faces we knew. It was nice to have a little natter with Anna Lysik from Don’t Cramp My Style and a catch up with Nina from What Nina Spotted. There are so many talented blogging gals in Manchester!
Quarter one gems
We weren’t just at Gothem to natter though! We were here to take a look at JD’s newest additions. The usual suspects were all laid out – Nike, Puma, Adidas. However, some unusual brands have had a revival lately – Champion, Ellesse & Fila. Remember them? That’s right, there’s more to 90’s fashion than tattoo chokers!
Women’s streetwear is coming back and it’s better than ever. No longer should we feel ashamed of rocking track pants to go shopping, even branded crops are being worn on nights out. Check the #SimpleFits tag on instagram and you won’t fall short of gals wearing fresh white trainers and loose fitting t-shirts.
I spotted two Fila baseball tops that fit this trend perfectly! I popped the white version on my wishlist but this navy version was extremely popular among the other bloggers. It’s the type of shirt you can throw on with jeans and trainers, but I can also see myself wearing it open with high-waisted jeans and a crop underneath. I’ve been having a nosey on the JD site the event and there’s a pair of Ellesse men’s trainers that I’d love to pair with this. Is it a faux pas to mix brands like that?!
Some of my favourite pieces also came from the Pink Soda collection. It’s an inhouse JD brand and the quality is awesome. It’s the perfect combination of style & practicality. You get the performance you need for the gym, but it’s also stylish enough to weave into your everyday outfits too. I guess you could call it athleisure.
We were kindly handed a little wishlist to name our top five items. As you can see, I struggled! At first I had my eye on the Air Max Theas, but they’re a little too close to the Roshe I have. I swapped to the Adidas NMDs. A bold move for a gal who’s used to wearing Nike!
Like what you see on my list? Well stick around cause I’ll be styling these items soon!
A member of JD’s team ushered me out onto the balcony for a quick interview. (It was so nice to bump into a fellow Salford Uni alumni at the event, Lucy!) The view from up top of Gotham was incredible. Here’s a few clips from the event where you can get to know what some of the other lovely attendees thought of the JD women’s fashion range…
Genuine shout out to the team at JD women:
I’ve never been to a blogger event where the staff are actually interested in creating content with the bloggers. Everyone was SO friendly and so eager to chat. The JD gals were so quick to offer help with photos and their own social media team were there to create content too. This is how events should be done!
