Update: I can no longer recommend this place after a homophobic incident with Rev’s doormen.
Whilst many people hide their blog from their friends, I’ve been lucky enough to land some mates who are just as passionate about blogging as I am! Every now and then we get to do something typically ‘bloggerish‘, like brunch in the city and this time it was certainly overdue.
We’d been invited by the lovely Kitty at Revolución de Cuba to sample some treats from their newly launched brunch menu. Now I have to be honest – I’ve never been in RDC during the day so it was quite a nice change! You’ll usually find me on the lower deck with a pair of maracas, but Sunday brunch called for a bit of decorum.
I met with Emilie, Hannah and Rebecca for a spot of Spanish scran and a well-needed catch up. This last few months, we’ve all gone our separate ways after working together for a year. Hannah and Emilie left the company, I handed my notice in and Rebecca stayed as a PR powerhouse; as you can imagine, we had quite a lot to discuss!
First things first was a coffee. Much needed on a lazy Sunday afternoon and RDC’s coffee perked me right up. As you can see, they give you a little bit of brownie to go with your drink. Perfect for someone who likes a bit of sweetness to offset the richness of a latte.
In between gossiping and giggling, we all had the tough decision of choosing what to eat. Now my only critique of the menu would be that it took a while to figure out what was veggie-friendly. Adding V signs would be much appreciated, but once you find out what you can eat there is plenty of choice!
I opted for the avocado brunch. I love poached eggs, they are possibly one of my favourite things to eat – so I had high hopes for that distinct textured egg white and runny middle!
One thing I loved was the way the dish was styled. RDC have really thought about the way each dish is presented and I loved looking at a plate full of vibrant colour. We all agreed that the mosaic table and patterned plates definitely added to the vibe too. It’s easy to forget that you’re sitting in a chain restaurant, watching the city buzz by.
The avocado mash was perfect! I often find that people get lazy and leave too many chunks for my liking, but this had the perfect texture. The salsa on the side was a little salty, but I loved the mix of sweet and savoury. For 4.50, you do get a good sized portion. I was actually surprised because you’re looking at paying 7 -11 in most places around Manchester for a similar dish.
We each chose something different and when it comes to food, we’re not sharers. I devoured mine without thinking to offer the girls a bite! In fairness though, as the only veggie it’s not like I could try their dishes either! It did all look fantastic though and the kitchen staff made sure to leave the egg off Emilie’s burrito (she hates them), which showed that it’s all made fresh!
I can definitely see myself going back from brunch at RDC again. It’s a lovely venue and they have plenty of choice on their new menu. I have a feeling my fella would love the pulled pork breakfast and Hannah definitely had her eye on the porridge, so I’m sure you’ll see us all again soon RDC!
That food looks amazing! Your meal actually gave me an idea for a meal I could make for my family.

I wish I had friends to go to brunch with that wouldn’t mind when I take pictures of EVERYTHING haha this place sounds nice, but too much egg for my liking

That’s what my friend Emilie was thinking at first! She absolutely hates egg.
They can customise your breakfast though and her burrito came without, but still looked awesome :).
I can definitely confirm that my breakfast burrito was epic – even without the egg!!
Brunch is my favourite meal to have at the weekend esp as most places will give you both the choice of breakfast and lunch dishes x
I have to admit the food look fresh and different! Do they have many branches or is it just the one restaurant?

Yeah they have quite a few :)! It’s part of the Revolution bar chain. This was the Manchester branch and I think they have another in Notts.
Try the revoluciondecuba.com site to see if there’s one near you. I’d definitely recommend!
Always good to hang out with friends that matter. Food looks delish.
Wow, everything looks delicious! You’re so lucky to have blogger friends who understand and share your passions and interests. My friends and family don’t really understand blogging and don’t discuss it often.

Wow, this food looks delicious, I was actually supposed to go to this, but my friend pulled out at the last minute! Looks like I will have to make a trip there another time though, as I want all the food! haha xxx
Oohh my gaaaawd! I’m drooling!! I’m so gutted I missed this! However, I’ll definitely be bobbing in when it looks this good 🙂
Looks delicious! I could just eat that right now 🙂
This all looks gorgeous! I love the plates and mosaic table, too – so pretty! I’ll definitely be checking this place out next time I’m down in Manchester 🙂
